My prefered method of testing a restrictor on GAL clutch is to open the hall door with elevator at the landing, and press the hall button. Causing the car door to set the restrictor in a more natural way than testing from the door op or by hand.
Finally, you slide the hall door with moderate force into the clutch with restrictor still set, and the clutch should pop the restrictor off.
There are a few reasons I do it this way;
-I can see the clutch, restrictor, and with a flashlight the motor pulley (on GAL door operators).
-If the door opening force is too high i can see the motor pulley spin, or the clutch will not pop the restictor off without alot of force from the hall door slamming into the clutch.
-I believe having the door open force tuned helps reduce entrapments where the pickups left contact with the clutch.
-It’s quick, and you dont need to be on the cartop.
